On August 29, 2026, TelevisaUnivision kicked off PJ Fest to create a distributed engagement event. The network expanded its Premios Juventud youth music awards property into a six-day festival experience across several major markets. The new format combined live events and brand activations with exclusive concerts, livestreams, and a televised awards broadcast. This shift moved the event from a single night of programming into a multi-city engagement model.

What Actually Changed For The Event Layout?

The 2026 PJ Fest schedule moved through Miami, Houston, and Los Angeles. It culminated with the Premios Juventud awards show at Starlite Marbella in Spain on September 3. This marked the first time the awards show was held in Europe. The sequence included a BRESH pre-party in Miami on August 29 and BMF Fest in Houston on August 30.

The programming continued with a Jay Wheeler Privado session in Miami on August 31. Los Angeles hosted a Piso 21 Privado session on September 1. A Morat ViX Música Session followed on September 2. PJ Backstage and the main awards broadcast concluded the event sequence on September 3.

This expansion required organizers to build several types of audience touchpoints. They ran in-person concerts, livestreamed backstage content, hosted ViX Música Sessions, and distributed the awards broadcast. TelevisaUnivision reported that the programming reached more than 150 countries across Latin America, Europe, Africa, and Asia. The 2026 event included several sponsors beyond NYX Professional Makeup. Participating brands included Coca-Cola, Planet Fitness, Universal Pictures, and Bulova LATAM. Air Europa, JCDecaux, and METT Hotel also sponsored the multi-city platform.

The main Premios Juventud telecast reached 10 million total viewers across the United States, Mexico, and Spain, according to TelevisaUnivision. The U.S. broadcast reached 4.3 million total viewers, up 7% from the 2025 edition. TelevisaUnivision also reported 635 million video views, up 23% from the previous year. The company reported 673 million cross-platform engagements during PJ Fest week, a 49% increase from 2025.

These results were compiled from multiple measurement sources. The data included Nielsen Big Data Plus Panel and NPM for U.S. television. Other measurement sources included AdvantEdge for Mexico and Fifty5Blue for Spain. Teams also utilized YouTube TV Analytics, ViX internal analytics, and GA4. Sprout Social, Meta Studio, YouTube Studio, and Talkwalker also provided metrics.

Why Does This Structural Shift Matter For CPG Brands?

At Makai, we build festival zones, premieres, and pop-ups that turn viewers into fans and fans into advocates. When an entertainment property fractures a single event into a multi-market roadshow, it creates a massive operational challenge. It also presents a major opportunity for consumer brands. You no longer have to rely on one crowded weekend to generate your entire Return on Investment.

By spreading the footprint across different cities, brands can tie their physical presence to specific consumer behaviors. We blend physical and digital experiences by integrating QR codes, mobile technology, and real-world activations into a cohesive layer across retail and event tours. PJ Fest proves that connecting physical events to a larger content system works when the logistics are tight. It combined local market experiences with national and international broadcast reach.

Concert tie-ins are becoming a visible experiential tactic, with brands partnering with touring musicians at concert venues and related cultural events. However, the field execution must be flawless. If your local brand ambassadors fail to capture leads, the wider digital distribution will not save your sales pipeline. A successful roadshow requires strict operational control, clear data tracking, and a disciplined approach to physical marketing.

Marketing teams must avoid the 5 biggest mistakes brands make after getting into retail when planning these complex tours. You need a centralized operating model to handle the complexity of staggered dates, varying venue rules, and diverse local audiences. Brands must focus on verifiable outcomes like sample redemption, retail visits, and lead capture. Cheering for passive broadcast impressions is not enough to sustain a physical marketing program.

How Will Multi-City Layouts Impact Field Staffing And Permitting?

Breaking a large event into smaller, city-specific activations creates an immediate challenge for field operations. A roadshow requires standardized staffing and training programs across different regions. Organizers must also standardize product presentation, data capture, and escalation procedures. At the same time, the physical marketing strategy must leave room for local cultural and audience differences.

When we ran the Little Debbie Share a Smile Tour as a 21-market mobile activation using a branded truck, trailer, and Cupcake Smart Cars, the operational demands were intense. Across the tour, we distributed 224,534 cupcakes and generated more than 2.4 million brand impressions. Our team also captured 9,500 photos, recorded 340 videos, and earned coverage from three local television stations. For multi-city programs like PJ Fest, the permitting, venue coordination, and equipment routing multiply with every new stop.

You have to store your sampling product and event gear, ship it, and track it nationwide so every activation stays on schedule. We turned Kona Brewing's sponsorship at Santa Monica Pier 360 into a beach-themed branded environment built around product, giveaways, leis, and a place for attendees to spend time with the brand. Our team handled the on-site execution from setup through teardown at a festival with an estimated 50,000 attendees. Managing one massive festival requires deep logistical planning, but managing a rolling series of events across different states requires a completely different level of inventory management and staff routing.

The floor flow changes drastically from city to city. Miami hosted the BRESH pre-party, while Houston hosted BMF Fest, meaning the physical layouts and crowd dynamics were completely different. Sponsors have to adapt their booths, line management strategies, and ambassador ratios to fit each unique venue. Event Marketer measurement expert Joe Federbush recommends evaluating activations through three lenses: return on experience, return on emotion, and return on investment.

Federbush’s suggested questions include whether attendees found the experience effective, how they felt about it, and whether they would recommend repeating it. He also suggests asking what action they might take afterward, such as requesting a meeting, following a brand, or seeking more information. If the field staff is overwhelmed, marketing teams will struggle to build brand activations that turn attention into action effectively.

How Did NYX Approach Its Miami Footprint?

The Miami kickoff was produced in collaboration with Bresh, a touring party experience, and powered by NYX Professional Makeup. NYX’s onsite activation centered on its Buttermelt Blush product. A professional makeup artist provided applications, and the brand distributed product samples or giveaways.

The activation was built around the "Prep, Set, Perreo" theme, connecting makeup touch-ups to a dance-focused environment rooted in reggaeton culture. TelevisaUnivision VP of brand partnerships Abril Reiss said the activation allowed attendees to touch up their makeup at the event rather than leaving the dance floor to use a bathroom. By solving an existing attendee need, the brand avoided interrupting the event with a disconnected sales message.

NYX General Manager for the United States Ana McMahon said the brand viewed PJ Fest as part of a broader, year-round effort to connect with Latina audiences rather than as a one-off event. McMahon specifically described the decision to feature an already popular product as more authentic than forcing a new product narrative into a celebratory social setting. McMahon said NYX selected Buttermelt Blush because the product was already over-indexing with Hispanic audiences.

McMahon said Miami was attractive because of its strong association with Latina culture, self-expression, and passion. She also noted NYX’s prior activity in the market as a deciding factor. When brands invest in measurable mobile experiences based on established product-market fit, they generate far more actionable data than companies launching unproven items in crowded settings.
